Day 27 of Chinese food
23:02 Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006

Let's see...lots of things happened but I'm sure I don't remember all of them. I've been to some really good restaurants and I've been to some really bad ones. Tonight we went to this restaurant that specialized in turtle dishes, which I do not like at all. My mom used to make turtle soup when I was younger and I always hated it. They love it over here, of course, because they like everything I don't. haha. Luckily there were other dishes and I didn't have to starve. Woohoo! The place we went to looked like it would be kinda cool in the daytime because it's by all these pond thingies, where I guess they raise the turtles. We drove really far to get there. It must be the cool place to be.

I was not so lucky about a week before when we went to this restaurant that specializes in lamb, which I also do not eat. I could only pick from about three dishes out of probably 15 or so. I even ventured to eat some fish, which I normally do not do, because there was nothing else to eat but lamb. It was so grosss because they brought out the lamb head. >_< Wah!

That same day we climbed this mountain that's kind of famous because it has this giant red lantern at the top. I don't remember what the story about it was but it had something to do with this red lantern that lit up every night or something. I don't know.. I'll have to ask my mommer. After lots of hiking and schwitzing, we went to eat rotisserie chicken! Oohwee! I think it's true what they say about Chinese restaurants. The dirtier they are, the better the food tastes (but probably the higher the chance of diarrhea in some cases) because this place looked pretty nasty. They didn't even wipe the tables clean. All they did was wipe off the stuff people left behind with a dirty rag. Pretty nasty. Everything was really good though and it was quite the turnaround from lamb central earlier in the day.

There was this poser French restaurant I went to that suckeddddd...aside from the decorations and desserts and stuff because those were rather fancy. It was called Boton Champs Elysee but none of the food was even French. Everything that wasn't Chinese was just some kind of steak dish and there were a few other items like "pizza". The steak was cooked okay but the sauce they put it in was so gross. There was mashed potatoes in the garnishing and I looove mashed taters so I tried to eat some and it tasted like McNasty in a mashed form. The pizza was like a giant cracker with cheese and pieces of fruit and the cheese tasted weird. There wasn't even any sauce, the essence of the pizza (IMO). I was quite sad after one bite. The rest of the menu was comprised of "Asian food" and "Chinese Food", which in this case were totally interchangeable because it was all Chinese food. They even managed to mess up some of that. The only things that were tolerable that we ate that night were the baby bokchoy and this kalamari dish. What made the dinner better, though, was that there was live music. Most of the meal there was this girl on the piano, who played pop songs and some classical music. Later on this guy (who was kinda cute :P) came out and played pop songs on his guitaro and sang..and guys who can sing are hizzottt.

Yesterday I died and went to polo tee heaven. haha. I bought four polo shirts within minutes of each other and including those, I've bought seven on this trip. That's one for each day of the week :O! I also bought these funny shirts with this Chinese guy's face and on the side in really big letters, it says "STUNNER." hahaha. I don't know why I thought it was so funny but I got three of three of them, along with this Germany World Cup shirt, even though they didn't win. haha. I guess China had its yuan on Deutschland because I see Germany stuff everywhere. I think I pretty much got my shop on already. I'm quite satisfied but I still need to buy a few things. I've only got 5 more days left :[ I've barely even taken any pictures. How sad is that? I'd probably have more if I wasn't scared into thinking that anyone who looks in my direction wants to rob me. Speaking of which, there's this street in HouJie that's kinda popular for shopping where these little kids that each hold a flower in their hand hang out. They target couples walking around and usually latch onto the females leg and begs them to buy the flower, I guess? I don't know. My cousin told me that if they don't sell enough flowers, their master person beats them at the end of the day. It's so sad :[ and then on the street perpendicular, there's this guy who walks around and writes on the ground in chalk and he's got this sob story about how he has no money to go back home and all he needs is a hundred bucks and stuff, but my uncle said it was fake. China's nuts!

Oh oh and one more food story.. Yesterday I went to a Korean place for dinner. Their supposed Korean bbq is nothing like the kind they have back home, which probably means it's crap compared to the kind they have in Korea. haha. The food was pretty good anyways and I had kimchee. Mmhmmm. I don't eat much spicy food, but I likes me some kimchee (also, Hot Cheetos!), especially oye kimchee(?)..the cucumber kind. So gut.
