Day 16 of the on and off T-storms 23:35 Sunday, Aug. 06, 2006 It rains randomly but most of the time it's not that bad. Occasionally the weather's very monsoon-like with the winds and the rain and people getting attacked by trashcans (True story. I saw it on the news. This lady in HK was walking and this trashcan up and hit her during a storm so she ran for the nearest pole to hold on for dear life.). It's really intense. There was also like a hurricane or tornado somewhere nearby. I think it was a hurricane, since it's such wet weather, but my aunt called it a tornado...like the Jay Chou song. Anyways, the news is saddening, because they showed bodies being searched for in floods and stuff. So devastating. I wish they didn't have to go through that. I wish the weather could be like it is in California, where all we have to worry about is too much sun, earthquakes, and California physically detaching itself from the mainland and becoming its own country. Speaking of California, we ate with this lady one time and her idea of California and all of the US...and pretty much anywhere that wasn't China...was very narrow. She was like, "Yeah, there's lots of gangs there. You can't stare at anyone because they'll kill you like that! *schnap*" haha. Yes...America is all gangs. She probably didn't speak to me much because she suspected that I was involved in some kind of heist formulated by an infamous dai low. Anyway, yesterday was a day of pamperment. My aunt's friend suggested that my cousins and I get facials. So we did. My face still feels the same but it was quite nice and I finally know why my cheeks are always red, but I don't know when they started looking like that. The blackhead treatment was really painful, but they made my face numb to the pain with this cooling stuff after and really, my face felt good for a while, but then the goodness rubbed off. I hung around at my aunt's photo place for a while and then we went to dinner with her friend from way back when, who is like the tallest woman I've ever seen in China. haha. That's not saying a whole lot, since I'm considered a giant at 5'5", which is really kind of short, but she was taller than me and this past half-month, I haven't really seen any girls who even met my height. After dinner, she suggested we go get foot massages and we did. It was very refreshing and they served us drinks and stuff. Yummy milktea :D The good feelings also wore off because in my sleep, I got attacked by mosquitoes. I feel like there isn't a place on my body that they haven't bitten yet because I'm itchy all over. :*[ I think it had a little something to do with the power outage. There was a planned power outage starting at 3am today in the whole city. It's funny because in California, we call it an "energy crisis" and it's all dramatic and stuff, but over here, they're all calm about the energy going out. They just prepare for it and let it come as it is, even though it's all humid and gross. The first outage I experienced the other night was so calm. In fact, I came home to my aunt and uncle and their friends playing Mahjong. It was like usual but just a little darker. haha. That outage wasn't even planned and they were so whatevers about it. And when the power went back on, everyone was cheering outside. haha. The only problem I had with today's outage is the way I woke up, which was to the sound of some guy yelling, "DOI!!" to someone who lives upstairs, I guess. SO ANNOYING. Freaking doorbells being powered by electricity. haha. I've taken a liking to Korean soaps dubbed in Cantonese, because I can understand what's going on and a lot of the guys are hottt. Unfortunately the ones I've seen that are dubbed in Mandarin have had all ugly guys. I don't get it. haha. It's fun to watch the Canto dubbed ones though, because Canto soaps/TV series are full of ugly guys most of the time too. Something I don't understand about China is why they would want to build places with floor toilets. Like..my aunt and uncle's place is pretty new and for some reason, they decided to include one bathroom with a fricken floor toilet, while the others are all high tech and crazy (so are their showers!) and by the way, my room happens to be the one with the one floor toilet. Needless to say, I only go in that bathroom to brush my teeth and then I either go to my cousin's bathroom or the scary bathroom downstairs. I choose scary over floor toilet. That's how much I detest it! Many restaurants have them too, which is very disappointing, because a restaurant could be all extravagant and stuff and then you go to the bathroom and the toilet is like a hole in the ground. Are they proud of them? Was the ceramic floor toilet an invention of theirs or something? I don't know. All I know is that I am probably going to, if not already, have a bladdar infection from having to hold my pee until I get back to the house every day. <back<-->fwd> 5 most recent entries: I'm a thought criminal - Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 Moving away again! - Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 My reaction to Flavor of Love - Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 Late night confusion! - Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 Bill and the couple drama across the quad - Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 |
