Day four of persecution
23:00 Tuesday, Jul. 25, 2006

In addition to assuming my position as the white girl (I'm not actually white, for those of you who don't know me), I am now considered fat beyond recognition by the Chinese. Even this lady who has only seen me once in her life two years ago told me--well, she didn't actually tell me personally because no one thinks I can understand Chinese, especially not their dialect, which I do because my grandma speaks it and I think I spend enough time around her to understand--that I am really fat compared to last time and that my twin cousins are absolutely gorgeous and skinny. I don't need to be compared to my cute twin cousins because I already feel sad enough as it is. It has ruined my shopping mood and now I just have no reason to be here anymore. I want to go home. I'm lonely and no one cares to talk to me. I make them feel very awkward and they want to get away from me before they even get near me. Sigh. I still have almost a month left, so maybe something good will happen. I guess all those bad things that happened prior to my trip were omens. I've come to realize that the China I liked was only cool and enjoyable because people were nice before and why were they nice? Because I was with my mom. That's right. They were only nice to me because they were being nice to my mom. They don't actually like any of her children. I want to go to Guangzhou or Hong Kong to visit other relatives because I feel very unwanted here. Only a few people have been nice to me and most of them aren't even related to me.

On a lighter note, I went to their version of a beach in Shenzhen. I don't know if the beaches are different elsewhere but this one was weeeird. haha. First of all, you have to pay for like everything. The Chinese really know how to exploit. You have to pay 10 yuan to get in, you have to pay for parking, of course, and you have to pay five yuan to shower. There's tent thingies you can rent to change in for a couple hours. And it's soo weird because you can go there and not be in the sun for as long as you want because there's...PINE TREES growing in the sand at the edge of the sandy part. If you keep walking back, there's fire pits. They're not like round holes in the ground like ours. The area where the pits are is more like a picnic area. There's block benches and the fire pit thing in the middle, where people barbeque not on grills but on chicken wire. The sand itself is not very sandy, really. Well it starts out sand-like and as you get down to the water, it turns more and more like gravel. When you get to the water, it's basically really small rocks and shells so it hurts to walk around. The showers are another story. OMG. Gross. Naked people make me feel uneasy but a gigantic group of naked people all crammed into a tiny room. EW. Everyone's clamoring for a shower and stuff and it's just so ew. To make matters worse, we were all the way in the back row waiting at the corner shower and this old lady comes along and crouches down and PEES in the corner. My cousins' cousin started saying stuff to her like how there's a bathroom that's free outside and stuff and the old lady just laughed like a crazy.

After that fiasco, we were about ready to leave but we were waiting for someone, I guess. My cousins' cousin took her daughter to watch the live band, which was whatevers. I don't know if they did it on purpose or if they thought they coud get away with it but they basically stole all the English songs they sang, one of the more famous ones being that Green Day song..about waking up when September ends, etc. haha. After a while we got up and left and mang, Chinese traffic is like LA traffic, but they probably don't have it every day like we do. haha.

Oh and I got a haircut today. It's so short and thin : I have no hair!

PS I don't think I want to come back to this part of China for a very long time. I'd like to come back to China...but elsewhere. Everyone knows my mom (that got away and left for HK and then America) in Houjie and therefore assumes that none of her children know any Chinese.
